ABOUT
Lisa T. Miller
More than 30 years inside hospital operations. Founder of VIE Healthcare Consulting. Inventor of the Invoice Analytics System. Now guiding health systems through AI adoption.
For more than 30 years, Lisa T. Miller has worked inside hospital operations, not around them. Her career began on the front lines of surgical care, in the OR itself. She saw firsthand how supplies move in and out of surgical cases, how instruments and equipment flow through SPD, how cases get scheduled, and how every one of those cases gets billed. She learned healthcare operations by standing in the middle of them, watching processes unfold in real time and understanding where they break down.
In 1999, she founded VIE Healthcare Consulting, a healthcare operations consulting firm focused on cost, profitability, and performance across the entire hospital. Her teams worked department by department, in the lab, in biomed, in pharmacy, in transportation, and in every clinical and support area in between. That work took her into hospitals of every size across the country, delivered more than $1 billion in documented savings, and led to the sale of her firm to Morgan Stanley Capital Partners in 2022.
From Manual Workflows to Automation and Analytics
What sets Lisa apart is what she did with that frontline knowledge. Again and again, she helped hospitals take manual, labor-intensive processes and turn them into automated workflows backed by real analytics.
One example lives at the intersection of the OR and the revenue cycle. High-cost implants charged in the OR must map correctly to managed care agreements, and some contracts include a trailer claim requirement. The payer will not reimburse an implant or a 278 revenue code charge until the invoice or proof of cost is submitted after the bill itself. Lisa helped hospitals automate that entire workflow, so the moment a case closes, revenue cycle has exactly what each payer requires. Manual chase work disappears, and reimbursement accelerates.
A Patented Innovation That Became the Industry Standard
The clearest proof of Lisa's approach is her U.S. patent, the Invoice Analytics System (Patent No. 11,842,327 B2). Purchased services represent one of the largest and least visible expense categories in any hospital, spanning hundreds of vendors and thousands of invoices, each one carrying line-item details that rarely get reviewed against the underlying contract. For years, the only way to find billing errors, unapproved price increases, off-contract charges, and duplicate fees was to pull invoices by hand and compare them line by line. Most hospitals simply did not have the staff to do it, so millions of dollars in overcharges went unexamined.
Lisa saw that problem on the front lines and built the solution. Her Invoice Analytics System took that fully manual process and made it fully automated, using OCR to capture invoice line-item data, AI to classify and match charges against contract terms, and analytics to surface errors, pricing variances, and savings opportunities the moment they appear. What once required weeks of manual review now happens continuously and at scale.
That approach, automating invoice line-item review with OCR, AI, and analytics, is now the standard in the industry. Lisa did not follow the market. She built what the market later adopted.
Her second patent, Direct-To-Business Feedback Communication, applied the same principle to a different manual workflow, replacing slow, paper-bound feedback loops with automated communication that reaches the right person at the right time. Both patents share the same origin: Lisa standing inside a broken process, seeing what was invisible from the outside, and building the system that fixes it.
Operations Leadership, Earned on the Front Lines
Lisa has served as an interim supply chain executive and an interim chief operating officer, carrying operational responsibility inside hospitals rather than advising from a distance. She knows healthcare operations at the level where the work actually happens, and she has spent her career converting that knowledge into data systems, automation, and measurable financial results.
Today, she brings that same experience to the next chapter of hospital transformation, helping health systems replace manual data and manual workflows with intelligent automation, and guiding them as AI and agentic health move from concept into daily operations.
A Team Built to Deliver
Lisa has brought together a talented team of experts, from data technologists to AI engineers, who deliver AI adoption to healthcare organizations. The work requires more than strategy. It requires people who can build, integrate, and support intelligent systems inside the complex realities of a health system.
